One of the greatest misconceptions we hold is about the devil. The truth is, the devil is not a real being. To understand this, we need to break down the meaning of words and explore their origins. In the earliest gospels, the word “devil” never appears it’s referred to as a spirit of evil, not the spirit of evil. What’s the difference?
The Nature of Evil Spirits
A spirit of evil doesn’t mean a literal ghost or entity. Instead, it represents destructive moods and thought patterns things like hate, jealousy, revenge, fear, and remorse. These negative emotions are the real forces of destruction in our lives. So, when we talk about “evil spirits,” we’re really talking about the harmful thoughts and feelings that take over our minds.
What is Sin?
Similarly, sin isn’t what you’ve been told. The word “sin” actually originates from an ancient Mesopotamian religion, where “Sin” was the name of the god of the moon. In this context, the sun represents masculinity and fire, while the moon symbolizes femininity and water essentially, our emotions. So, in reality, sin refers to negative emotions, not some inherent wrongdoing.
Demons and Negative Emotions
The concept of a “demon” also holds a different meaning. The letter “D” signifies something negative, and “mon” relates to the moon, which represents emotion. So, a demon isn’t some external creature it’s simply a negative emotion. We, as humans, have the divine ability to create reality from our thoughts, but it’s up to us whether we create something good (which we could call “God”) or something harmful (what we might call the “devil”).
